Orofino shooting death investigated as homicide

The shooting death of a 23-year-old Orofino woman is being investigated as a homicide, the Orofino Police Department reported Tuesday.

Samantha S. Fignani was pronounced dead at Clearwater Valley Hospital after the shooting, which was reported at 7:23 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the police department.

No suspect has been arrested, but an autopsy was performed Tuesday morning and the case is being investigated by the police and sheriff’s departments of Clearwater and Idaho counties.

Officers responded Monday to the scene at 12732 Laqa Ave., where they discovered Fignani, who had been shot. A search warrant was issued authorizing the search of the residence where the shooting took place.
