By Kathy Hedberg Lewiston Tribune

An Orofino, Idaho, woman is scheduled for a June 5 preliminary hearing on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old Samantha S. Fignani, of Orofino.

Jessica L. Colpitts, 31, made an initial appearance in Magistrate Court Wednesday afternoon in Orofino. She was remanded to the custody of the Clearwater County Jail and bond was set at $500,000.

Clearwater County public defender William J. Fitzgerald, of Lewiston, was appointed to represent Colpitts.

She was arrested about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday and charged in connection with the Monday death of Fignani. Orofino Police Chief Jeff Wilson was not available for comment on the case Wednesday. A spokeswoman at his office said he is continuing to investigate the case. The police department is being assisted by the Clearwater and Idaho County sheriff’s offices.

Officers were summoned Monday to the scene at 12732 Laqa Ave., where they discovered Fignani, who had been shot. She was taken to Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino, where she was pronounced dead.

A search warrant was issued authorizing the search of the residence where the shooting took place. An autopsy also has been performed on Fignani.

No additional information was available Wednesday.
