Gonzaga senior forward Johnathan Williams is on the watch list for another player of the year award in college basketball.

Williams made the John R. Wooden Award’s top 50, released Tuesday. Williams was named to the Naismith Trophy watch list last week.

Williams opened the season with 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists in a 97-69 victory over Texas Southern. He earned All-WCC first-team honors last season while averaging 10.2 points and 6.4 rebounds. He was voted Most Outstanding Player of the West Regional in San Jose last season.

The Memphis native has started all 40 games in his Gonzaga career.

Williams was joined on the Wooden top 50 by Saint Mary’s center Jock Landale. Duke and Arizona both have three representatives on the top 50.

Kansas guard Frank Mason won the Wooden Award and Naismith Trophy last season. Gonzaga’s Nigel Williams-Goss was a finalist for the Wooden Award.
