Gonzaga-Texas: 3 keys to the Bulldogs’ 76-71 win
Key moment
After blowing a 16-point lead in the final 6 minutes of regulation, Gonzaga regained its composure with an 8-0 run in overtime. Johnathan Williams had four points, including a dunk, Corey Kispert added a putback and hometown kid Silas Melson sealed it with a steal and layup.
Offensive player of the game
Rui Hachimura came off the bench and struck for a team-high 20 points, his career best by eight points. The 6-foot-8 sophomore’s first points came on a drive and soaring dunk. He had success taking the ball to the rim, whether in transition or dribbling in from the wing, and a couple of perimeter jumpers kept Texas defenders honest.
Defensive player of the game
Johnathan Williams had a tough night at the offensive end after his 39-point explosion Friday, but the senior forward didn’t let it impact his defense. He played a key role in limiting Texas interior tandem Mohamed Bamba and Dylan Osetkowski for the majority of the game. Bamba had a quiet nine points and Osetkowski perked up late to finish with 11. They combined to make 8 of 21 shots.
