Man who robbed Wells Fargo in North Spokane, shot customer, sentenced to 18 years

From staff reports

Don Owens was sentenced to 18 years in prison Wednesday for robbing a North Spokane Wells Fargo and shooting a customer in 2016.

Owens, 35, pleaded guilty to armed bank robbery and discharge of a firearm in August.

On April 28, 2016, Owens ordered everyone in the bank on their knees. The customer said he didn’t believe the robber was armed and tackled him. The robber shot him twice, and the customer tore off Owens’ mask in the scuffle. The customer survived his injuries.

Owens had an extensive criminal history before the robbery, including six felonies and 19 misdemeanors.
