Stanford’s Bryce Love is the first 1,000-yard rusher in the Bowl Subdivision, crossing the threshold with the nation’s top performance of the season.

Love ran for a school-record 301 yards on 25 carries against Arizona State on Saturday and has 1,088 through five games. It was the first 300-yard game this season. Last year there were four.

Love’s FBS-leading average of 217.6 yards per game is 53 more than that of San Diego State’s Rashaad Penny. With seven games left, Love would need to average just over 133 yards to break Christian McCaffrey’s school season record of 2,019.

The junior is averaging 11.1 yards per attempt and has had at least one touchdown run of 50 yards or longer in each game, including TD bursts of 61 and 59 yards in the 34-24 win over the Sun Devils.

Love will be challenged this week at Utah. The Utes rank first in the Pac-12 and 10th in the nation in rushing defense (87 ypg).

Saturday’s late Pac-12 games

UCLA 27, Colorado 23: Josh Rosen threw for 372 yards and one touchdown, Soso Jamabo and Jalen Starks each ran for a touchdown, and the Bruins broke a two-game losing streak with a win over the Buffaloes in Pasadena, California.

The Bruins (3-2, 1-1 Pac-12) held off the Buffaloes (3-2, 0-2) with a late defensive stand. Steven Montez’s final pass sailed out of the end zone three plays after finding Jay MacIntyre on a 31-yard completion to set up the Hail Mary try.

Montez passed for 243 yards and one touchdown and ran for 108 yards, as Colorado lost its fourth straight game at the Rose Bowl since joining the Pac-12 in 2011.

For Rosen, it was his fifth-straight 350-yard game.

Oregon 45, California 24: Justin Herbert threw for a touchdown and ran for another before he was hurt, and the injury-plagued Ducks defeated the Golden Bears in Eugene.

Kani Benoit ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns, including a career-long 68-yard scoring dash for Oregon (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12) in the fourth quarter.

But the victory was costly for the Ducks, who lost Herbert along with running back Royce Freeman and starting receiver Dillon Mitchell to injury in the first half. Backup QB Taylor Alie left the game in the fourth quarter. And starting safety Tyree Robinson was ejected for targeting.

Ross Bowers threw for 255 yards and three touchdowns for the Golden Bears (3-2, 0-2). Kanawai Noa caught seven passes for 126 yards and a score. Cal finished with just eight net rushing yards for the game.
