Founder of Spokane’s Iron Goat Brewing died Saturday

Paul Edminster, co-founder of Iron Goat Brewing, died Saturday due to complications from cancer.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that we have lost a great friend, husband, father, partner and co-founder at Iron Goat Brewing,” the brewery announced on its Facebook page Monday, adding, “He will be sorely missed and cherished. In lieu of flowers please make donations to this fund that is set up for his children.”

Greg Brandt, another co-founder of the popular brewery, set up a GoFundMe campaign for Edminster’s children.

Iron Goat was started by Brandt and his wife, Heather, and Edminster and his wife, the artist Sheila Evans. The two couples opened a tasting room on East Mallon Avenue in 2012, completing most of the work themselves. Last year, they moved the brewery and tasting room to a bigger location in downtown.

The brewery takes its name from the Garbage Goat sculpture in Riverfront Park and is known for its Impaler imperial India Pale Ale, Head Butt IPA, Garbage Pale Ale and Goatmeal Stout – among an array of other offerings, including collaborations and experimental beers – and its popular trivia nights on Thursdays.
