Spokane Police investigates reported cop impersonators

The Spokane Police Department is investigating a report of two men impersonating police offers to enter a home last Friday.

Two white males who appeared to be in their 50s and 30s dressed as officers and entered a home at the 4600 block of North Addison Street, one using a wallet with a flip-out badge and informing the homeowner of burglaries in the area.

One of the men asked to look around the residence while other took notes, according to authorities. After several minutes the men left, but did not attempt contact with other homes in the area.

“Spokane Police would like to remind the public that when acting in an official capacity, officers and detectives will routinely display a badge and have an identification card available upon request,” the Spokane Police Department wrote in a news release.

“Uniformed officers “will display the city patches on both arms, wearing either a jump suit or wool style uniform,” the release said. Detectives and plain clothes officers “will display the Spokane Police badge along with an identification card. Spokane Police Officers will not come to your house and simply ask to ‘look around.’ ”
