The Dirt: Permits granted for $10 million Catholic Charities housing development for homeless

Catholic Charities has been issued permits for more than $10 million in work to build 76 units of housing for the chronically homeless in northwest Spokane.

Six buildings are part of the development, called Holy Names Haven, at 1935 N. Holy Names, east of Spokane Falls Community College.

The development is the fifth such project by the nonprofit. Other similar housing projects built by Catholic Charities for the homeless are Father Bach Haven, Buder Haven, Pope Francis Haven and the Marilee Apartments.

The housing will add to the 240 affordable units already under construction by the nonprofit’s development partner, Inland Group, on the same land once occupied by the Sisters of the Holy Names convent. The Inland Group is listed as the applicant for the new construction.

According to city permit records, four multifamily structures will be erected and construction costs for the buildings range from $465,000 to $3.1 million. A $720,000 community building and a $38,000 maintenance shed also were permitted.

Spokane-based Nystrom Olson Architecture designed the development. Whipple Consulting Engineers, of Spokane Valley, did the engineering.
