Girls soccer roundup: Abby McConnell scores twice and West Valley edges Clarkston in shootout

West Valley 4, Clarkston 3: Abby McConnell found the net twice and West Valley (5-6, 5-4) defeated visiting Clarkston (7-3, 5-3) 4-3 in a shootout in a Great Northern League game. Baylee Trejo scored the winner in the shootout for the Eagles.

Cheney 2, Pullman 0: Makenna Benson scored in the 39th minute and Cheney (6-5-0, 4-4-0) beat visiting Pullman (4-8-0, 1-7-0) 2-0 on Thursday in a Great Northern League match. Carla Thorson poked in the second goal in the 45th minute for the Blackhawks.

Freeman 3, Colville 2: Lindsay Balkenbush scored the game-winning goal two minutes into overtime and Freeman (8-2, 6-2) escaped with a 3-2 win over visiting Colville (3-7, 3-6) in a Northeast A league game. Brynn Van Orden added a goal and two assists for the Scotties. Keren Torres scored Colville’s two goals.

Lakeside (WA) 4, Newport 0: Alyssa Figy recorded the first goal and added an assist and visiting visiting Lakeside (13-1, 9-1) defeated Newport (1-9, 0-9) 4-0 in a Northeast A league game.

Deer Park 6, Medical Lake 2: Hannah Carnahan scored a hat trick and visiting Deer Park (7-4, 6-3) beat Medical Lake (7-6, 6-4) 6-2 in a Northeast A league game. Penny Moore tacked on a pair of goals for the Stags.

Idaho 3A District 1-2 championship: Coeur d’Alene Charter topped Timberlake 7-2 in the district title game. Both teams move on to the state tourney next week.
