Prep roundup: Mead, U-Hi post first-round slowpitch softball wins

Peyton Cushner had two hits, including a two-run home run, to spark the Mead Panthers to a 16-11 victory over the Central Valley Bears in a District 8 4A slowpitch matchup on Monday afternoon at Central Valley.

Both Destiny Scott and Annaka Tibbits each hit four hits and three runs scored for Mead in the win. Central Valley was led by Jaelyn Strand, who had two hits, including a home run, and 5 RBIs.

Mead travels to face University on Tuesday, while Central Valley will host Ferris, also Tuesday.

Sierra Apodaca totaled four hits for University with a pair of RBIs to help lead the Titans to a 15-5 victory over visiting Ferris in the other District 8 4A first-round playoff tilt.

Brooklyn Hecker tallied three hits, two RBIs and a double for University.

Gracie Lord led Ferris with two hits, including a double, while teammate Jordan Whitten hit a triple for the Saxons.

Girls soccer

Kelsey Crosby nailed a goal in the 82nd minute of play to propel the University Titans to a 3-2 win over the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups in a 4A District 8 first-round playoff match at G-Prep.

Crosby also added an assist for University, on a goal in the 76th minute by Kora George.

Lauren Chester scored a goal for University in the first half, while Kyah Le scored both goals for Gonzaga Prep.

Goalkeeper Madi Szafranksy had eight saves for University, while her counterpart Eden Elliot had seven saves for the Bullpups
