Area roundup: Sasquatch wrap up East Region men’s soccer title

The Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch put the finishing touches on the East Region men’s soccer regular-season title with a 2-1 victory over the visiting North Idaho Cardinals in Northwest Athletic Conference play on Wednesday.

Neither team scored until the Cardinals (6-8-2, 5-5-2) found the net 6:07 into the second half.

But the Sasquatch evened the score in the 63rd minute on a goal by Javier Chavez and scored the game-winner on a boot by Salvador Velazquez to notch the victory.

The Sasquatch receive a bye into the second round of the playoffs. Clark will play Pierce or Tacoma next Wednesday for the right to travel and play CC Spokane on Nov. 4.

––Sydney Clements, Cheris Brown and Jamie Fassler all scored unassisted goals in the second half to propel the CC Spokane Sasquatch women to a 3-0 win over the visiting North Idaho Cardinals in NWAC play.

The win wraps up second place for CCS, while NIC finishes third. The Sasquatch will host either Whatcom or Skagit Valley in the first round of the playoffs. NIC will travel to Whatcom or SV for a first-rounder.

Volleyball

Rachel Gregg had a match-high 17 kills to lead Lewis-Clark State (8-13) to a 25-21, 33-35, 25-23, 25-23 win over the Whitworth Pirates (12-9) in nonconference play in Lewiston.

Emiko Kahler had 15 kills and Cassandra Mendoza added 14 kills and 11 digs for the Whits.

––Taylor Gould totaled 16 kills and 10 digs to propel the CC Spokane Sasquatch (29-8, 8-4) to a 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 25-21 win over visiting Wenatchee Valley (15-15, 4-8) in NWAC play.
