Body of woman recovered from Salmon River identified

COTTONWOOD, Idaho – A body found in the Salmon River in west-central Idaho is that of a woman who went missing in the spring of 2016 after a car she was riding in crashed into the river.

The Idaho County coroner on Friday identified 21-year-old Cayla Danenberg of Nampa as the body found Monday by hunters on the bank of the river.

Coroner Cody Funke says dental records led to the identification.

The crash in May 2016 occurred about 5 miles north of Riggins and also killed 21-year-old Tiffany Maupin of Nampa. Her body was recovered several weeks after the crash.

The two friends were driving to the University of Idaho when their car went off U.S. Highway 95 and into the river where it became submerged in fast water.
