Girls soccer: Mt. Spokane handles Cheney in season opener

Freshman Ellie Johnson scored two goals and Mt. Spokane (1-0-0) downed visiting Cheney (0-1) 4-1 in a nonleague game on Friday.

Michaela Thompson and Allie Lafferty added goals for the Wildcats. Kaitlin Teeters scored for the Blackhawks.

Ferris 3, East Valley 1: Jill Calkins broke a 1-1 tie in the 57th minute and the Saxons (1-0) beat the Knights (0-1) in a nonleague game.

Kaitlyn Oliver and Yacine Bitibale added goals for Ferris. Chloe Gellhaus scored for East Valley.

Lewis and Clark 9, Southridge 0: Camryn Gardner scored two goals with two assists and the Tigers (1-0) routed the Suns (0-1) in a nonleague game.

Jackie Brown added two goals and an assist, Carolyn Moravec had a goal and two assists, and Kiki Bourekis, Paige Malm, Sophie Doneen and Alli Schoultz all had one goal apiece.
