A Libby, Montana, man died after his car experienced an equipment failure and crashed west of Ritzville early Saturday morning.

Michael Potter, 57, was driving west on Interstate 90 just past midnight when his right rear tire failed, according to a Washington State Patrol news release.

His 2001 Chevrolet Silverado left the road and veered into the median, rolled and came to rest blocking the westbound lanes near milepost 226. Both lanes were blocked for the next 5 1/2 hours, according to the release.

A Washington State trooper declared Potter dead on the scene.
