2 children, 3 adults injured in crash; DUI suspected

Two children and three adults were injured Monday evening in a crash near Deer Park that investigators believe was caused, in part, by driving under the influence.

Kelly M. Walsh, of Spokane, was driving south on U.S. Highway 395 about 8:40 p.m. when his 1997 Dodge Ram turned left at Crawford Road, the Washington State Patrol reported in a news release.

WSP said he turned in front of a northbound 2007 Chevy Suburban driven by Colville resident Julie D. Gibbons, 37. Gibbons, a 7-year-old girl and a 5-year-old girl riding in the SUV were injured and transported to Providence Holy Family Hospital. A 3-year-old boy riding with them was uninjured.

Walsh, 23, and his passenger, Priest River resident Aimee L. Warren, 20, were injured and taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center.

WSP said Walsh likely will face DUI and vehicular assault charges.

This story was changed on Sept. 6, 2017 to correct the gender of one of the drivers.
