Spokane Chiefs drop preseason shootout to Portland

From staff reports

Hayden Ostir scored his fourth goal of the Western Hockey League preseason but the Spokane Chiefs allowed two goals late in regulation and fell 6-5 in a shootout to the Portland Winterhawks at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.

The Chiefs were without six of their veteran players, all out this weekend at NHL training camps, including NHL first-round draft pick Kailer Yamamoto (Edmonton) and second-round selection Jaret Anderson-Dolan (L.A. Kings).

Portland’s Brad Ginnell evened the game at 5-5 with a goal at 18:16 of the third period.

Riley Woods, Adam Beckman, Luke Gallagher and Tyson Feist also scored for Spokane. Declan Hobbs made 29 saves for the Chiefs, which were outshot 34-29.

Spokane continues preseason action in Kennewick against Seattle on Friday and Tri-City on Saturday.
