Area roundup: Alivia Brown leads Washington State golf to win

Alivia Brown shot 6-over 210 to take individual honors and lead host Washington State to the team title at the Washington State Cougar Cup at Palouse Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday.

WSU bested Sacramento State by six strokes. Idaho, bolstered by Michelle Kim’s fourth-place finish at 3-over 219, took third.

Gonzaga’s Jessica Mangrobang shot 6-over 222 and finished tied for 26th at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic at Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Gonzaga placed 15th in a 15-team field.

Men’s golf

Brian Mogg shot 2-under 214 and placed tied for 12 to help Washington State to ninth place in a 15-team field at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Cedar Rapids Country Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

North Carolina State’s Benjamin Shipp won the individual title at 10-under 206 and led the Wolfpack to the team title.

Enrique Marin was Idaho’s top finisher, tied in 23rd at 4-over 214, and the Vandals placed 19th in a 19-team field at the Ram Masters at Fort Collins Country Club in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Francois Lagraulet of Missouri-Kansas City won at 9-under 201 and Colorado State was team champion at 17-under, 19 strokes ahead of UMKC.

Men’s soccer

Israel Gonzalez scored in the 26th minute and Columbia Basin (6-0-0, 4-0-0) made the lone goal stand and beat CC Spokane (4-2-1, 1-1-0) in a Northwest Athletic Conference game in Pasco on Tuesday.

The Hawks’ Andres Mendoza made four saves in the shutout.

Women’s soccer

Sydney Clements scored twice and visiting CC Spokane (4-2-1, 2-0-1) blanked Columbia Basin (4-1-2, 3-1-1) 3-0 in NWAC play in Pasco.

Sabrina Castaneda added a goal and Michelle Czarapata made two saves in the shutout.

Whitworth trio honored

The Northwest Conference recognized three Whitworth players from three different teams with its weekly awards.

Kayla Leland (women’s cross country), Jonah Snyder (men’s soccer) and Ian Kolste (football-offense) all took home honors. Leland and Kolste won for the second time in 2017-18.
