Volleyball roundup: Kate Budig leads Gonzaga Prep over Mt. Spokane to open league play

Kate Budig had 15 kills with 25 digs and visiting Gonzaga Prep (4-0, 1-0) beat Mt. Spokane (2-2, 0-1) in four sets (25-21, 25-18, 17-25, 26-24) in a Greater Spokane League opener on Tuesday. Mt. Spokane was led by Malina Ama with 13 kills.

Ferris 3, Rogers 0: Katelyn Brock recorded 21 assists and six aces to help Ferris (2-1, 1-0) over visiting Rogers (1-3, 0-1) in straight sets (25-22, 25-10, 25-9) in a Greater Spokane League opener on Tuesday. Annika Briggs tallied 11 kills and four blocks for the Saxons.

University 3, Lewis and Clark 0: Rachael Schlect had 15 kills and University (3-0, 1-0) took down visiting Lewis and Clark (1-4, 0-1) in straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-14) on Tuesday night. Amanda Reed had four kills for the Tigers.

Central Valley 3, Shadle Park 1: Paige Wollan tallied 15 kills and 10 blocks and visiting Central Valley (1-4, 1-0) beat Shadle Park (3-2, 0-1) in four sets (20-25, 25-18, 25-11, 25-13) in a Greater Spokane League opener on Tuesday. Sami Smith recorded three aces and 23 digs for the Bears.

Mead 3, North Central 0: Ashyiah Mitchell logged four kills with nine digs and Mead (2-0, 1-0) topped visiting North Central (0-5, 0-1) in three sets (25-7, 25-9, 25-14).

Great Northern

West Valley 3, East Valley 2: Jaylynn Buehler tallied 11 kills, 21 assists and six aces to lead West Valley (2-3, 1-2) over visiting East Valley (2-2, 1-1) in five sets (25-16, 26-24, 21-25, 19-25, 17-15) in Great Northern League play on Tuesday.

Pullman 3, Clarkston 0: Lucy Gao handed out 43 assists and visiting Pullman (2-0, 1-0) handled Clarkston (1-3, 1-3) in three sets (25-17, 25-18, 25-14) in Great Northern League play on Tuesday. Alyssa Bailey added five aces for the Greyhounds.

Northeast A

Newport at Lakeside (WA): Lexi Mikkelsen had nine kills, three aces and a block and Lakeside (5-0) dispatched visiting Newport (3-2) in straight sets (25-2, 25-10, 25-11) in Northeast A play on Tuesday. Cora Pelleburg had five kills for the Grizzlies.

Deer Park 3, Medical Lake 0: Payton Erickson tallied seven digs with five aces and Deer Park (1-3) beat visiting Medical Lake (0-5) in three sets (25-10, 25-8, 25-13).

Chewelah 3, Riverside 0: Elizabeth Chalmers powered five aces and Chewelah (3-2, 2-2) swept visiting Riverside (1-4, 1-3) in three sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-11) in Northeast A play on Tuesday. Elle Carpenter added 13 assists for the Cougars. For Riverside, Brittany Nortz led the defense with 14 digs.

Northeast 2B

Reardan 3, St. George 0: Gabby Lee and Jessie Williams registered 11 kills apiece and Reardan (2-1, 2-1) defeated visiting St. George’s (1-1, 0-1) in three sets (25-23, 25-19, 25-21) in Northeast 2B play on Tuesday. Williams added two blocks.

Northwest Christian 3, Liberty 0: Emma Sweatman had 11 kills with two blocks and visiting Northwest Christian (2-2) swept Liberty (1-2) in three sets (25-14, 25-13, 25-18) in a nonleague game on Tuesday. Paige Dawson had 13 digs and 10 assists.

Northeast 1B

Odessa 3, Wellpinit 0: Maleah Davison had six kills and Odessa (2-1, 2-1) beat visiting Wellpinit (2-3, 2-2) in straight sets (25-15, 25-13, 25-23) on Tuesday. Brenna Carstensen dished out eight assists for the Titans.

Republic 3, Inchelium 0: Anna Silva had 16 assists and visiting Republic (3-1, 3-1) got past Inchelium (2-3, 2-3) in straight sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-23) in Northeast 1B play on Tuesday. Rylee Desautel led the Hornets with 18 kills and five blocks.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 3, Valley Christian 0: Gabi Isaak scored four aces with two blocks and visiting Almira/Coulee-Hartline (4-0, 4-0) defeated Valley Christian (1-3, 1-2) in three sets (25-14, 26-24, 25-12). Christa Christopherson finished with 15 assists.

Southeast 1B

Colton 3, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 0: Rylee Vining scored five service aces with nine assists and Colton (5-0, 1-0) beat visiting LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus (0-1, 0-1) in straight sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-8). Jordyn Moerhle and Josie Schultheis each added 15 digs and Moerhle also spiked eight kills.

Oakesdale 3, Garfield-Palouse 0: Logan Reed had 14 kills, Madison Shrope added 22 assists and Oakesdale (4-0, 2-0) beat visiting Garfield-Palouse (1-1, 0-1) in straight sets (25-12, 25-14, 25-9). Elizabeth Stout had 16 digs for the Vikings.

Nonleague

Springdale 3, Columbia 0: Mattea Gines and Niah Gray scored four aces apiece and visiting Springdale (3-1) took care of Columbia (0-5) in three sets (25-6, 25-20, 25-13) in nonleague play on Tuesday. Breanna Erickson spiked nine kills and Nicole Clemmer handed out 17 assists.

Idaho

Lewiston 3, Coeur d’Alene 1: Lewiston (2-1, 2-0) topped visiting Coeur d’Alene (4-5, 0-3) in four sets (22-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-19) in a 5A Inland Empire match on Tuesday. Kelly Horning had 14 kills and Sam Swayze added 23 digs for the Vikings.

Moscow 3, Sandpoint 0: Moscow (2-3, 2-1) swept visiting Sandpoint (1-4, 0-3) in straight sets (25-22, 25-23, 25-23) in a 4A Inland Empire match on Tuesday.

Bonners Ferry 3, Priest River 0: Miranda Wenk recorded 14 kills and Bonners Ferry (2-0, 1-0) defeated visiting Priest River (1-6, 0-3) in straight sets (25-12, 25-16, 25-18) in an Intermountain League match.

Clark Fork 3, Lakeside (ID) 0: Clark Fork (4-0, 3-0) beat host Lakeside (ID) (2-5, 1-2) in straight sets (25-5, 25-23, 26-24) in a North Star League match.

Lake City 3, Lakeland 0: Ashley Kaufman had 13 kills with two blocks and Lake City (7-0) defeated visiting Lakeland (4-4) in three sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-10) in a nonleague match to stay undefeated on the year. Klaire Mitchell added 23 assists and two aces.
