Weekend weather: Showers give way to mostly sunny skies

Much needed and welcomed rain throughout the region earlier in the week has washed away the remnants of smoke to provide relief to the lousy air quality suffered by Eastern Washington and North Idaho residents, many of whom felt robbed of their last two weeks of summer by the unhealthy conditions.

While breathing is easier, the air temperatures – if not the school buses – remind us that summer is indeed over and fall rapidly approaches – Autumnal Equinox is Friday, ready or not.

The area will see a 30 percent chance of showers on Thursday with highs in the mid 50s and south winds around 7 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are possible.

Thursday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 40 in the city and in the upper 30s in the surrounding area and North Idaho.

Skies will brighten on Friday with scattered clouds and highs in the region in the upper 50s and low 60s. Clouds will roll back in Friday night with lows around 40.

Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs both days in the mid-to-upper 60s and lows in the mid 40s.
