UPDATED: Fri., Sept. 22, 2017

The “Double Hat Bandit” suspected of robbing banks in Spokane and six other states has been captured in Indiana, according to the FBI.
Shayne Carson, 54, was arrested Thursday without incident in the parking lot of a motel in Whiteland, Indiana. He has been charged in federal court with the Dec. 19 robbery of a U.S. Bank branch in West Valley City, Utah.
Carson is a suspect in 13 other bank robberies in Utah, Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Idaho between December and July 22. In each case, the robber wore two hats and displayed a handgun. The ongoing investigation has also identified bank robberies in Iowa and Ohio that may have been committed by Carson, according to the FBI.
Among the crimes are the robberies of the Alaska USA Federal Credit Union inside the Safeway store at 933 E. Mission Ave. on Jan. 3 and the Alaska USA inside the Shadle Safeway at 2507 W. Wellesley Ave. on Jan. 3 and June 27.
The FBI began offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the “Double Hat Bandit” in August.
