Spokane Police officer gets arm stuck in fleeing vehicle

A Spokane Police officer suffered minor injuries Wednesday after getting his arm stuck in the door of a fleeing vehicle.

Around 1:30 p.m, Zachary W. Woods, 18, was stopped near Hoffman Avenue and Lacey Street for “driving poorly” in a school zone, according to the Spokane Police Department. When Woods sped off, his Cadillac struck the officer, who then got his arm stuck in the driver’s open window

The officer was stuck running alongside the vehicle for a third of a block before his arm came free.

As officers gave chase, Woods pulled out of an alley onto Nevada Street between Joseph Avenue and Columbia Avenue, colliding with a gold Kia heading northbound.

Woods continued north for a block until he crashed into a yard at Central Avenue before attempting to run. He was quickly arrested.

Woods and the driver of the Kia also sustained minor injuries.

Woods was booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault, felony hit and run and attempting to elude a police officer.
