Area roundup: Blue Mountain snaps Community Colleges of Spokane’s 10-game baseball winning streak

PENDLETON, Ore. – Christian Padilla tripled, homered and drove in four runs Wednesday to lead Community Colleges of Spokane to a 10-4 win over Blue Mountain to open a Northwest Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader.
Dustin Durflinger finished 4 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs as the Timberwolves (14-12, 3-3) won the second game 11-3 to snap the Sasquatch’s 10-game winning streak.
The Sasquatch (18-6, 5-1) trailed the opener 2-0 before Ryan Gross capped a three-run fourth with a two-run single.
Levi Brenneman’s RBI double in the sixth boosted CCS’ lead to 5-2.
Padilla’s two-out, two-run single in the seventh stretched the lead to 8-2.
Aaron Fritts finished 2 for 3 with three runs for CCS.
Sasquatch starter Mitch Guiberson worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs. Conner Grytdal shut down the Timberwolves with 2 2/3 hitless innings, striking out three and walking none.
In the second game, Alex Salsman’s three-run homer in the third gave Blue Mountain a 5-1 lead.
Jermaine Ducham and Brenneman had RBI singles in the sixth to cut CCS’ deficit to 5-3, but Joe Hixenbaugh had an RBI double and scored in the bottom of the inning to put the Timberwolves in charge 7-3.
