Prosecutors: Spokane Police justified in using deadly force in November shooting

From staff reports

Two Spokane police officers were justified in using deadly force in a November shooting in Hillyard, according to Spokane County Prosecutors.

Officers David Stone and Brent Armstrong were attempting to contact 56-year-old James Danforth around 8 p.m. on Nov. 28 while responding to a report of domestic violence.

While Stone and Armstrong were sitting in their patrol cars across the street from the house, they saw a man matching Danforth’s description. Both officers got out and asked Danforth to show them his hands. He did not comply.

Danforth was fatally shot after prosecutors said he fired a gunshot at Stone and Armstrong through his jacket pocket.

Prosecutors said Danforth represented a serious and immediate threat to the officers and persons inside the home, who he had already assaulted. No criminal charges will be filed.
