Seven Zags HBP in 9-8 win over Portland to sweep series

Gunnar Schubert and Nick Brooks each had three hits and two RBIs and Gonzaga had seven batters hit by pitches in taking a 9-8 win to sweep its series with the visiting Portland Pilots on Sunday.
Daniel Fredrickson added two of Gonzaga’s 10 hits. Brooks hit a solo homer in the eighth inning and the Bulldogs (16-14, 7-5 West Coast Conference) added another on a wild pitch to lead 9-6.
The Pilots (10-19, 4-8) had 17 hits, including three home runs.
Starter Mac Lardner (3-1) gave up 11 hits and six runs, five earned, over five innings to get the win. Taylor Davis pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings with Calvin LeBrun getting the save despite giving up two ninth-inning runs.
