Area roundup: Cardinals sweep Sasquatch in softball doubleheader
Kayla Curtan, Megan Carver, Madi Mott, Devinne Amesquita and Ashlyn Winn all hit home runs to power the North Idaho Cardinals to an 11-0 five-inning win over the visiting Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch in the opener of a Northwest Conference softball doubleheader on Monday.
The Cardinals (24-2, 15-1) completed the sweep with an 8-0 six-inning victory in the nightcap. Taylor Anderson drove in three runs for NIC, while Amesquita added a pinch-hit, two-run single.
Hannah Springs went 3 for 3 in the second game for the Sasquatch (13-9, 8-7). CC Spokane managed just two singles in the opener.
Golf
The North Idaho Cardinals men won the Spokane Bigfoot Invitational by two strokes over Lewis-Clark State at The Links in Post Falls.
Todd Henderson and Brady Nelson both shot 1-under-par 71s to help the Cardinals post an even-par 288 on the day. NIC finished the two-day event at 9-over par.
Lewis-Clark State won the women’s event by 20 strokes over runner-up CC Spokane. North Idaho placed fourth. L-C State finished 37-over-par.
The Cardinals will host the NIC Invitational beginning on Sunday.
