Area roundup: Washington State’s Alivia Brown ties for 19th place at women’s golf tournament

Washington State’s Alivia Brown tied for 19th place Tuesday at the Silverado Showdown women’s golf tournament in Napa, California.

Brown finished three rounds at 4-over-par 220, 12 shots behind co-medalists Jennifer Chang of USC and Patty Tavatanakit of UCLA.

Brown’s Cougars placed 12th in the 17-team field, at 29-over 893. Team champion USC shot 5-under 859 for a 10-shot edge on California.

  • Eastern Washington placed sixth among 16 teams at the Bobcat Spring Invitational in Goodyear, Arizona. The Eagles finished three rounds at 913, 42 shots behind team champion Grand Canyon. EWU’s Alexa Clark, Madalyn Ardueser and Kirsten Ishikawa tied for 19th at 11-over 227. Medalist Tara Finigan of Portland State shot 3-under 213.

Track and field

Whitworth’s Nicholas McGill placed second in the men’s decathlon and the Pirates’ Isabel Clark was second in the women’s heptathlon at the Northwest Conference Combined Events Championship at Whitworth.

McGill, who had the best javelin toss of the day (181 feet, 2 inches), totaled 6,284 points to trail only George Fox’s Alex Canchola (6,510).

Clark, who also had the best javelin mark of the day (129-6), totaled 4,704 points to the conference-record 4,959 of winner Annie Wright of George Fox.
