Late rally gives Gonzaga win over Pacific in West Coast Conference baseball

STOCKTON, Calif. – Austin Pinorini’s two-run homer in the eighth gave Gonzaga the lead for good, and the Bulldogs (17-16, 8-6) defeated the Pacific Tigers 5-2 in West Coast Conference baseball play Saturday.

The Bulldogs trailed 2-0 after seven innings, baffled for six innings by Ricky Reynoso. The Tigers starter allowed four hits in six innings, striking out six.

The Zags started their rally with Isaac Barrera’s sacrifice fly in the eighth. Pinorini homered to left off Justin Giovannoni (2-3) for a 3-2 lead.

GU’s Gunnar Schubert capped the scoring with a two-run single to right in the ninth.

GU freshman starter Alek Jacob (3-3) allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings, striking out seven and walking two.

The Tigers dropped to 14-19, 5-9.
