Man who came to aid of another is hospitalized in attack

Associated Press

SEATTLE – Authorities say a Seattle area man is hospitalized in critical condition after he intervened to help a homeless man who was being attacked.

The King County Sheriff’s Office says the 39-year-old Burien man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition Wednesday night.

Spokesman Sgt. Ryan Abbott says two intoxicated men came out of a restaurant in Burien, south of Seattle, and began attacking a homeless man, pushing over his bike and cart containing his belongings.

Abbott says a bystander tried to intervene and the two men turned on him, hitting him with a machete and a chain.

The men, who are 25 and 30, were booked into King County Jail on investigation of assault.
