A woman was transported to a hospital with serious injuries after a truck hit her while she attempted to cross Division Street on Friday morning in north Spokane.

Officer Ben Maplthorpe, spokesman for the Spokane Police Department, said the woman was hit while crossing at about 9:30 a.m. near Division and Longfellow Avenue. She was in the marked but unsigned crosswalk walking east when two cars in the southbound lane stopped, but a pickup on the inner-most lane did not.

The collision pushed the woman several feet down the road. Maplethorpe said it’s possible she sustained serious injuries to her head. She was transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center.

The pickup’s driver stayed at the scene and was cooperative with investigators, Maplethorpe said. He was cited for failing to yield for a pedestrian at a crosswalk, a misdemeanor.

The collision and subsequent investigation closed Division between Wellesley and Longfellow avenues for about two hours. It was reopened at about noon.
