Former Gonzaga Bulldog Connor Griffin joining Pepperdine’s staff as graduate assistant
Former Gonzaga walk-on Connor Griffin, who went on to play football at Washington before finishing his collegiate career on Vanguard’s basketball team, is joining Pepperdine’s staff as a graduate assistant.
Griffin played in 29 games for the Zags in the 2014 and 2015 seasons. The Portland native scored 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in 88 minutes.
The former Oregon All-State football player left GU to walk on to Washington’s football team. The tight end/wide receiver made one start and one catch in two seasons. He also practiced with the Husky basketball team.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Griffin was an All-Golden State Athletic Conference selection with NAIA Vanguard last season. He led the team in scoring at 16.1 points while shooting 63.5 percent from the field. He also contributed 6.9 rebounds.
Griffin joins a Pepperdine staff with numerous Pacific Northwest connections. Lorenzo Romar, longtime head coach at Washington, is beginning his second stint as Pepperdine’s head coach. Romar’s assistants include former Washington State head coach Ken Bone and Curtis Allen, who assisted Bone at WSU and at Portland State. Bone served as a special assistant to Gonzaga coach Mark Few in 2017.
