Avista begins drawing down Lake Spokane on Jan. 1

From staff reports

Avista is starting its annual draw down of Lake Spokane starting January 1.

The water level will drop one foot per day for two or three weeks, according to a news release from Avista. The lake, which is normally at 1,536 feet will drain by 13 to 14 feet below that.

The lower water levels will help prevent Eurasian water milfoil and other invasive aquatic weeds found in Lake Spokane.

Avista is warning the public to take boats out of the water.
