Dog dies after jumping from Manito Park bridge

From staff reports

The city is considering reviewing safety measures around a stone bridge in Manito Park after a dog jumped off the side and died from injuries, according to KXLY.

The dog, Abby, had gotten away from owner Lori Rayburn and ran to the bridge before jumping off.

Rayburn told the station she had never been to Manito Park, which has a leash law. A sign near the bridge reads “Caution: Bridge Ahead, Dogs Must Be On A Leash.” At least two other dogs aside have jumped over the edge in recent years, KXLY reported.

A spokesperson for the city responded to the station in a statement, saying “We are so sorry to hear about the woman who lost her dog. Laws like leash laws are intended to help prevent injury to pets and citizens. The City will consider a review of this historic structure to see if additional safeguards are possible and/or wanted.“
