East Bremerton Rotary member gets 5 days in jail for sex with exchange student

Associated Press

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. – A former East Bremerton Rotary member charged with carrying on a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old foreign exchange student has pleaded guilty and will spend five days in jail.

The Kitsap Sun reported 74-year-old Larry Iversen pleaded guilty to assault with sexual motivation as part of a plea deal Friday in Kitsap County District Court.

Judge Claire Bradley also sentenced Iversen to 25 days of electronic home monitoring and a treatment program.

Iversen’s attorney Tim Kelly said at the hearing that Iversen apologized to the teen and her family, his own family, the Rotary Club and the community for his behavior.

The student was visiting under a Rotary International program. Iversen had been the “youth exchange officer” for the East Bremerton Rotary.

Iversen told police the relationship started in 2017 after he bought her a ring at a Rotary auction.
