Seattle removing unused surveillance cameras after outcry

Associated Press

SEATTLE – Seattle is spending $150,000 to remove more than two dozen surveillance cameras installed by the Seattle Police Department but never put into use following a community outcry.

KING-TV reported in a story on Friday that the cameras installed in 2013 will be repurposed and used by the Seattle Department of Transportation.

Seattle spokeswoman Megan Erb said cameras have already been taken down in West Seattle, Magnolia and Golden Gardens.

She said the next part of the plan is to remove about a dozen cameras in downtown Seattle.
