Girls basketball: North Central advances in 3A District 8 tourney

Kieana Bigsmoke scored 12 points, Taylor Cain added 10 and third-seeded North Central (12-10) defeated visiting sixth-seeded Southridge (5-17) 63-37 in a District 8 3A first-round showdown.

Emmee Ball led Southridge with 16 points. North Central advanced to play at No. 2 seed Kamiakin in a semifinal game on Friday, while Southridge moves to a loser-out game on Tuesday.

Kennewick 59, Shadle Park 36: Reilyn Davis scored 15 points and the No. 4 seed Lions (13-8) handled the visiting fifth-seeded Highlanders (3-19). Makenna Grier and Emilie Tangeman led Shadle Park with nine points apiece. Kennewick plays at No. 1 seed Mt. Spokane in a semifinal game on Friday while Shadle Park faces a loser-out game on Tuesday.

District 7 2A first round

Clarkston 79, Pullman 50: Ashlyn Wallace scored 35 points and the No. 2 seed Bantams (16-4) beat the visiting fifth-seeded Greyhounds (5-16). Payton Teevens scored 16 points and Rian Clear added 11 points for Pullman. Clarkston advanced to play Wednesday’s West Valley-Cheney winner in the district semifinal on Friday.

District 7 2B first round

Reardan 54, Wilbur-Creston 33: Kim Dewey scored 17 points and the Indians (8-13) defeated the Wildcats (3-18) at West Valley HS. Alicia Johnson and Sydney Schmierer led W-C with nine points apiece. Reardan advanced to face North Division No. 1 seed Davenport in a quarterfinal on Thursday while Wilbur-Creston plays in a loser-out game on Saturday.

Northwest Christian 54, Tekoa-Rosalia 37: Mattea Nelson scored 14 points and the Crusaders (16-5) beat the Timberwolves (1-18). Gwynn Razo led T-R with 11 points. Northwest Christian plays South Division No. 2 seed Liberty in a quarterfinal on Thursday while Tekoa-Rosalia faces a loser-out game on Saturday.

Asotin 44, Kettle Falls 43: Adrienne Washington scored 17 points, Myka Lee added 11 and the Panthers (5-13) edged the Bulldogs (8-13). Taylor Dunlap led Kettle Falls with 27 points. Asotin faces South Division No. 1 seed Colfax in a quarterfinal on Thursday while Kettle Falls faces a loser-out game on Saturday.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 59, Springdale 30: Eliza Galbreath scored 16 points and the Broncos (10-9) beat the Chargers (1-16). Nichole Beckman had 11 points for Springdale. LRS faces North Division No. 2 seed St. George’s in a quarterfinal on Thursday. Springdale plays in a loser-out on Saturday.

Idaho 5A District I-II

Post Falls 75, Lewiston 37: Melody Kempton scored 19 points and the No. 1 seed Trojans (18-1) downed the visiting third-seeded Bengals (16-6) in the district title game. Post Falls, ranked No. 2 in Idaho 5A by state media, advanced to the 5A state tournament. Lewiston, led by Alyssa Ralstin with nine points, will face Lake City on Thursday for a trip to a state play-in game. Bayley Brennan added 17 points with eight assists and Mackenzie Morris had 12 rebounds for Post Falls.

Lake City 54, Coeur d’Alene 22: Bridget Rieken scored 14 points and the No. 2 seed Timberwolves (13-9) rolled past the visiting fourth-seeded Vikings (4-15) in a district tourney loser-out game. Emma Whiteman led Coeur d’Alene with 13 points.
