One dead in apartment fire near Liberty Park
UPDATED: Fri., Feb. 23, 2018
An adult woman died early Friday morning in a fire at the Liberty Park Terrace Apartments on the lower South Hill.
Spokane firefighters were called to the scene at 2 a.m. near Perry Street and Hartson Avenue. Upon arrival, they observed smoke coming from the second floor of an apartment building, according to a Spokane Fire Department release.
Crews forced entry into a first floor apartment unit where they located and removed an adult female. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the woman, but were unsuccessful.
The fire originated in the kitchen of the first floor apartment and damage was contained to that unit, fire investigators said.
The cause is still under investigation.
Red Cross is assisting families adjacent to the unit impacted by smoke damage until they are able to return to their homes, according to the release.
