IRVINE, Calif.—UC Irvine defeated Gonzaga 3-1 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game nonleague baseball series at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark.
GU’s offense was held in check much of the night by UCI starter Andre Pellante. He went seven scoreless innings, giving up just one hit, while walking two and striking out 12.
For Gonzaga (2-3) Gunnar Schubert collected two hits, and Ernie Yake had an RBI triple in the eighth inning for the game’s only run after Irvine (4-1) opened with three runs in the first inning.
