Area roundup: Seventh-ranked Whitman rolls past Whitworth women 101-69

Casey Poe and Makana Stone scored 21 points each and seventh-ranked Whitman rolled past Whitworth 101-69 in Walla Walla on Tuesday night.

Whitman (13-1, 5-0 Northwest Conference) led from the opening minute, going up by double figures for good with 4:27 left in the half and taking a 51-32 lead at the break, shooting 53 percent to Whitworth’s 35 percent. The lead reached 37 in the fourth quarter.

Erika Kuehn scored 18 points, all in the first half, making four 3-pointers, for the Pirates (6-8, 1-4).

Camy Aguinaldo added 13 points, Grace Douglas 11 and Madison Moffat grabbed 10 rebounds with eight points for Whitworth.

Whitworth shot 41 percent with the Blues shooting 51 percent and making 12 of their 20 3-point attempts. They outrebounded the Pirates 47-32 with 19 offensive boards leading to a 20-5 edge in second-chance points and a 44-30 edge in points in the paint.

Ferenz honored

Idaho junior guard Mikayla Ferenz was selected as the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday after scoring a total of 72 points in two games last week.

She scored 33 points against Sacramento State and 39 against Portland State.

Ferenz is fourth in the nation at 23.2 points per game and has scored 30 or more points in three of her last four games. She is sixth in the NCAA at 3.93 3-pointers per game.
