Girls basketball coaches resign after car vandalized

Associated Press

SALMON, Idaho – The varsity and junior varsity coaches for girls basketball at Salmon High School in east-central Idaho have resigned after someone vandalized the varsity coach’s car.

School officials told the Idaho Statesman that varsity coach Richard Barany and junior varsity coach Sarah Foster resigned Thursday.

Athletic Director Jeremy Burgess said the season has been suspended, and it’s not clear how the teams will be able to finish out the season. The varsity team is 2-12, including a forfeit on Friday.

Burgess said the resignations occurred after Barany and the team returned from a road game Wednesday and found someone had slashed the tires of his vehicle and broken a headlight.

Burgess said both coaches were in their second year with the school and resigned out of concern for their safety.
