The Spokane Medical Examiner has identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday night in North Spokane.
Michele R. Purkey, 53, succumbed to extensive skull fractures and brain lacerations due to blunt impact of the collision, according the examiner’s report.
On Friday night around 5:30 p.m., an unidentified man attempted to cross a non-crosswalk portion of North Division Street near Costco before being struck by a southbound vehicle, according to Spokane Police.
When a nearby woman, Purkey, attempted to help the injured man, police said, they were both struck by a second southbound vehicle.
Purkey died at the scene and the man was sent to a local hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the second vehicle was apparently unaware of the collison, police said. No citations or arrests were made.
North Division Street was closed for nearly five hours as investigators processed the crash scene.
