The fourth time was a charm for FCM Portland on Saturday night.
Freddie Braun’s goal late in the first half snapped a 1-all tie and held up in the end as Portland defeated the Spokane Shadow 2-1 in a National Premier Soccer League West Region quarterfinal at Spokane Falls Community College.
Portland (7-2-4) had played the Shadow (7-1-5) three times this season, fashioning two ties and losing 2-0 on June 17.
Spokane took the early lead on Mike Ramos’ goal, but Portland forged a tie in the ninth minute on a goal by Christian Thyron.
