Idaho State Police name man suspected in I-90 crash

Idaho State Police have released the identity of a man suspected of intentionally causing multiple crashes throughout Idaho and Washington on Friday, before crashing his own vehicle in a collision on Interstate 90 near milepost 11 in Idaho.

According to Idaho State Police news release, Ian M. Bolstad, 24, of Newport, ended his chaotic run by rear-ending a blue 2008 Subaru Outback driven by Ellen F. Brown, 57, of Coeur d’Alene. Her vehicle was pushed into a construction zone and struck the post of an overhead traffic sign, ending up on top of a concrete barrier.

Bolstad, who was driving a Toyota Tundra pickup, came to rest in front of eastbound traffic, narrowing eastbound I-90 to one lane for about three hours.

Bolstad, Brown and Brown’s passenger, Joelle E. Tanguay, 33, of Tumwater, were transported to Kootenai Health, and Brown was later transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center. They were all wearing seat belts.

Before the crash, ISP had received reports that a blue Toyota Tundra pickup, which was later identified as Bolstad’s vehicle, was driving erratically through Idaho, according to the news release. In an Instagram post, ISP wrote that a driver, later identified as Bolstad, was suspect of intentionally causing several crashes in Idaho and Washington and that he may have been under the influence of drugs.

According to an ISP tweet, Bolstad has been charged with felony aggravated DUI, resisting and obstructing police and having an open container of alcohol. He was booked into Kootenai County Jail. The investigation is ongoing and more charges may be added at a later date.
