CMR vague on health care

I recently received a glossy campaign flyer in my mailbox promoting Cathy McMorris Rodgers as ‘Improving Access to Quality, Affordable Healthcare.’

CMR has been part of the House leadership that has been fighting the Affordable Care Act ever since it was introduced. With her party in control of all three branches of government, they have not been able to replace it with an acceptable alternative, yet they continue to chip away at the protections it has provided, such as pre-existing conditions.

If you look at her voting record, except for support for CHIP funding, she consistently vaguely proposes ‘options’ and the ‘free market’ as a solution for health care.

— January 12, 2007 – Voted no on HR4, which would have required negotiated prescription prices for Medicare part D, advocating that the marketplace would keep drug prices low.

— March 5, 2008 - Voted No on HR 1424, the ‘Mental Health and Addiction Equity act.

— July 8, 2010 – Signed the Contract from America 10-CFA07, which included a clause to defund, repeal and replace federal care with the market.

— January 5, 2011 – Co-sponsored 11-HR002 to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

— January 12, 2011 – Co-sponsored 11-HR004 to repeal ACA reporting requirements for small businesses, the first attempt at dismantling the Affordable Care Act by pieces.

— April 15, 2011 – Voted for HCR34 and SCR21, the Ryan budget, which cut $1.4 trillion in revenue.
