Fire heavily damages three garages

A fast-moving fire in East Central damaged three garages Sunday afternoon.

At about 4:30 p.m., Spokane firefighters were dispatched to the 2312 E. 5th Ave., where there were reports of an explosion and multiple detached garages burning in an alleyway, according to a news release.

First responders counted three separate garages on fire, which were quickly put out but not before it could spread to a nearby electrical pole, causing a brief power outage.

The fire caused heavy damage to the three separate detached buildings. The cause is under investigation.

Cause of South Hill fire under investigation

Fire investigators with the Spokane Fire Department are continuing to investigate a fire that damaged an unoccupied South Hill home Saturday.

At 8 p.m., fire crews responded to 1318 E. 40th Ave., where crews found a fire spreading throughout the single-story residence, according to a news release. County records indicate the home, built in 1950, is owned by Michael O’Sullivan.

Firefighters said the fire spread to two bedrooms and the attic area, but was quickly extinguished.

The occupants of the house were not home at the time of the fire. Investigators ask anyone with information to call (509) 625-7000.

Firefighters knock out blaze in Liberty Lake

Firefighters in Liberty Lake were able to suppress a house fire before it could spread to additional structures.

A crew with the Spokane Valley Fire Department, while refueling their fire engine in downtown Liberty Lake at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday evening, spotted what they believed to be a grass and brush fire south of the city, firefighters said in a news release.

Instead, they found a home fully involved with fire at 1317 S. Wright Blvd., which was located on a hill near dry brush and other flammable material. Firefighters were able to contain the fire from spreading to neighboring homes and land. The home was a complete loss. County records indicate the home was built in 1979 and is owned by Judy L. Goodrich.

The single resident of the house was able to escape without injury. The cause is under investigation.
