Berserk Bar celebrates grand opening Friday night

Berserk Bar is hosting a grand opening celebration Friday night.

The fun starts at 5 p.m. and runs until 2 a.m. And the event is open to the public. The Facebook invite notes there are no bands this weekend – “just you, me, and a whiskey or three.”

It also notes that “dressing up as Klaus Nomi is encouraged but not required.”

Nomi, who died in 1983 at 39, was a German singer and songwriter who was known for his highly stylized, theatrical and bizarre live performances as well as his signature hairdo which emphasized his receding hairline.

Owners of the recently-opened Berserk lounge were going for an artsy, punk-rock, dark and moody vibe.

Berserk is located in an old brick building at 125 S. Stevens St. in downtown Spokane.

The grand opening celebration coincides with the bar’s “very first Second Friday art show,” according to its Facebook post. The featured artist is Susan Webber.
