Crews working to contain North Spokane house fire

From staff reports

Spokane fire crews responding to a call near the intersection of East Providence Ave. and N. Mayfair St. found a fully-involved house fire late Wednesday afternoon.

The call came in just before 6 p.m. for the residence, located on Providence one block east of Division Street. When crews arrived fire was shooting from the garage of the residence and then spread to the home; the smoke plume could be seen from as far away as downtown.

Crews aggressively attacked the fire, which caused significant smoke, fire and water damage to the home and a garage, while also working on structure protection to prevent the fire from jumping to adjacent homes.

Spokane Fire Battalion Chief Chris Phillips said nearby homes were not seriously affected.

No one was inside the home when the fire started; an investigator will work to determine the fire’s cause, Phillips added.
