A North Spokane home sustained significant damage after a fire that started in the garage spread to the roof.

Battalion Chief Chris Phillips said no one was home when the fire started at around 5:50 p.m. in the garage, which was fully engulfed in flames before fire fighters contained it. The fire spread to the house, causing heavy damage to shingles, a large hole in the roof and smoke damage to the eaves. Phillips added that other homes in the neighborhood were not damaged.

Phillips said that investigators are looking into the cause of the fire and more information will be available at a later time.
