State 2B roundup: Saint George’s girls upset top-seeded Ilwaco to earn semifinal berth

Boys

Adna 68, Toldeo 66: With 27 points on 9 of 16 shooting, Cody Young led Adna to the quarterfinals with an overtime win over the Indians.

Reece Wallace led Toledo with 19 points, but he also finished with 10 turnovers, double the total Adna had as a team.

Austin Anderson added 11 points for the Pirates.

Adna advances to play top-seeded Kittitas/Thorp in the semifinals on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

Kittitas/Thorp 67, Toutle Lake 43: The stands were packed to see the top-seeded Coyotes, but more specifically, Brock Ravet.

Ravet, a 6-foot-1 junior point guard, committed to Gonzaga last June. He is expected to join the team for the 2020 season. But in this game, he helped the Coyotes soar past the Ducks with 24 points and seven rebounds.

Logan Grabenhorst led Toutle Lake with 10 points on 4 of 10 shooting.

Kittitas/Thorp advances to play fourth-seeded Adna on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

Saint George’s 54, Brewster 40: Saint George’s kept its undefeated season intact with a quarterfinal victory over the Bears.

Junior guard Mitchell Ward scored 14 points while being a perfect 6 for 6 from the line for the Dragons. Erik Farias added 13 points on 5 for 6 from the line.

Joe Taylor led the Bears with 20 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Saint George’s advances to play fourth-seeded Liberty in the semifinals.

Girls

Colfax 65, Tri-Cities Prep 47: Carmen Gfeller scored 32 points and the Bulldogs defeated the Jaguars to earn a spot in today’s semifinal round.

Talia Van Oelhoffen led Tri-Cities Prep with 16 points, well below her season average of nearly 30.

Gfeller powered the Bulldogs’ offense on 12 for 17 shooting and was a perfect 5 for 5 from the line. Point guard Piper Cai added 13 points with a team-high eight rebounds.

Saint George’s 62, Ilwaco 54: Midway through the third quarter, Saint George’s had a 17-point cushion and looked well on their way to the quarterfinals. Ilwaco’s monster comeback came up short, putting a scare into Dragons fans assured of a victory.

Lydia and Ceci Bergquist combined for 40 of the Dragons’ 62 points. Ceci was 4 for 5 from long range and Lydia did her damage at the free throw line, going 12 for 16.

Makenzie Kaech led the Fishermen with 25 points, going 9 for 21 from the floor.

Napavine 53, Wahkiakum 27: Melissa Lee put on a shooting clinic for Napavine, going 11 for 14 from the floor for 25 points, 16 more than anyone else who stepped on the court.

Wahkiakum shot 9 for 44 from the field and turned the ball over 13 times.

The Mules shot only 21 percent from the floor and only 14 percent in the second half, scoring only 10 points in the final two quarters.
