YAKIMA – Lynden Christian hit seven 3-pointers in the first half, a barrage that Medical Lake couldn’t endure, and the Cardinals dropped the state 1A girls semifinal contest Friday night in the SunDome, 64-40.

Medical Lake (23-1) will play LaSalle in the third-place game Saturday at 1 p.m. Regardless of the outcome, the Cardinals will bring home their first trophy since 1991’s fourth place hardware.

In addition to the 3-point shooting display, the taller Lyncs dominated the boards in the first half – 26-7. Added together, that spelled a 38-14 deficit on the scoreboard for the Cardinals.

“Lynden Christian just shot so well,” Medical Lake coach Kyle Lundberg said. “They just couldn’t miss.”

“Anytime you face a team where you are outsized, outmatched and in trouble lengthwise and then they hit seven threes, that will make it tough on you,” Lundberg said. “Overall, our girls battled in that second half and I’m extremely proud of them because they could have given up at any time and they didn’t.”

Jayda Noble led the Cardinals with 12 points and eight rebounds. Jessie Lohman added nine points.

Lakeside 49, LaCenter 27: The Eagles held LaCenter to a single point in the fourth period to advance to Saturday morning’s 9:30 trophy game against Zillah.

Lakeside nearly pitched a rate shutout in the period. It wasn’t until Whitley Seter hit a free throw with 31 seconds left that the Wildcats got on the scoreboard.

The blitz was balanced with six players scoring.

Sienna Swannack led the Eagles with 17 points. Hallie Jensen had eight points and 10 rebounds while Kendra Gay had eight points.
